Guest Stamper for Mary Fish!

Hello again! It's been a loooong time! I am so happy to be a guest on Mary Fish's Stampin' Pretty blog. She has to be the best upline ever! :) Mary thought my project might generate a few questions so I'll try to answer some of them up front. Feel free to comment here or email me if you have more questions...

I have loved owls since I was a little girl (fussing with my older brother and sister over who got to use my mom's one and only Owl mug for their hot chocolate!!) and I am excited that owls are so popular now! After seeing some CUTE owl bookends in a catalog I decided to try making some stuffed owls myself... so I made up a pattern and after changing it up a bit, I came up with this owl. I love that Stampin' Up has coordinating fabric and buttons... It definitely makes it easier! For this owl I used the Twitterpated fabric collection from the Occasions Mini Catalog and the cherry cobbler buttons from the regals button package... I cut the owl out using my pattern and then appliqued the belly, eyes, beak and wing insets. Next I sewed on the button eyes and then sewed her all together, leaving an opening in the back for stuffing her. Last I hand stitched the opening shut and she's all ready for hugs! :)

For the card, I pulled out my Fox & Friends stamp set... I inked the owl in soft suede and used the riding hood red marker to color her feet, then stamped it on white cardstock and cut her out. The owls is popped up with dimensionals. I used the bird punch for the branch. I punched one in early espresso and one in old olive. I then cut the leaves off the old olive branch and glued them onto the espresso branch. The background is pretty in pink cardstock that I ran through my BigShot with the perfect polka dots embossing folder.

By the way, I am hoping to get some owls made and into my Etsy shop TheOwlHutch... I've just been too busy at my house lately to get it done!

Here is the picture that inspired my owls. :) These little darlings are from Pottery Barn. :)

  3. Hi Anne! I can't believe I was just looking at your cards last week (from long ago that I won from you) trying to get some much needed inspiration. I was wondering how you were doing. So, now I know! Your project is so cute! You could custom make these owls as bookends to match a kids room. Maybe you have found a new calling - selling your pattern and directions! Wonderful job and it was so fun seeing your name again esp. on Mary's blog!

  11. Hi Anne-

You left a comment on my blog wanting to know where the cake plate is from.

I bought it from Crate and Barrel a few years back. You might still be able to find one. I think there was a platter too. I wish I would have bought that!
